U.S. Soccer Grade 8 Referees who desire to work higher level matches and move forward in their referee training and experiences should strongly consider upgrading to Grade 7 Referee

To encourage this continued growth, Colorado Referee Administration provides a online course specifically for those Grade 8 Referees who are ready to take this next step.

The U.S. Soccer Grade 7 Referee Course is designed to prepare officials for the amateur adult game. Based on the level of training provided, U.S. Soccer recommends that these officials be assigned accordingly to best serve the game.

In Colorado, there are two paths to move forward as a Grade 7 referee -

Grade 7 Adult Referees (non-upgrade track) are required to successfully complete the online training and examination as outlined from US Soccer's general Grade 7 requirements.

Grade 7 PLUS Referees (upgrade track) are required to successfully complete an annual Fitness Test and Referee on-field assessment to maintain their status in addition to the online training and examination. These referees are expected to continue working toward eventually obtaining their State Referee badge to work the higher levels of amateur adult and semi-professional games in the state.

The online learning course, on-field experience requirements and continuing classroom education provides the necessary tools to create a smooth transition to more advanced games.

Grade 7 PLUS Upgrade Procedure

The Referee must notify the State Director of Assessment (SDA) of his/her intent to upgrade in writing. As part of this notice, the referee should include a match count log verifying the game requirements are met and confirming that the referee has been active as a grade 8 referee for at least 12 months.

Upgrade Requirements

The purpose of the Grade 7 Referee Course is to prepare officials for the amateur adult game.  Based on the level of training provided, U.S. Soccer recommends that these officials be assigned accordingly to best service the game.
