Referees are Important to Soccer Success!
The referee's job is to manage the game and enforce the Laws of the Game. Referees must ensure that the game is safe, fair and fun for everyone: players, coaches, spectators, and themselves. Referees are critical to soccer success, a game cannot be played without them.
How Much Do Referees Get Paid?
Youth league games usually pay either every two weeks (5 times per season) or monthly. Youth tournaments usually pay within two weeks after the event. Adult leagues and tournaments usually pay monthly. However a few events/leagues pay at the end of the season. Check with your assignor as to exactly when your league will pay.

New referee courses are now open!
Ready to Take the Whistle? Here's How!
The online coursework requires you to complete the appropriate course at USSOCCER.COM (5-10 hrs) and Colorado online modules in the Colorado Registration, Learning and Course Management site (5-8 hrs) and in some cases, a field session. You must complete all components to meet the requirements of each referee grade.
Once you complete a course, you will be certified by U.S. Soccer as either recreational referee or a entry level referee. These beginner level courses are just the start of your career and are the first steps in the US Soccer Referee Program. With game experience, continuing education and dedication, you can advance as a referee.
Every new referee will also need to purchase a basic "starter kit" including uniform, whistle, flags and data wallet - everything needed to work a game except for shoes, a watch and a pencil. This kit runs about $65 and is available from several vendors online or may be purchased from the local Colorado OSI representative. You will probably need one additional shirt of a different color, adding about another $30 to your uniform costs.
When Will My Certification Expire?
- If you complete your training between Jan 1 and May 30, your registration is good until Dec 31 of the current year.
- If you complete your training between July 1 and Dec 31, your registration is good until Dec 31 of the next year.
